Hi again,
When you think of Scandinavian design, you might picture clean lines, minimalist spaces, and a soothing palette of whites and grays. And while we’ll always love the calm elegance of a neutral home, there’s another side to Nordic living, one that embraces bold colors, playful contrasts, and joyful self-expression.
At Nordtrice, we believe a Scandinavian home should feel alive. It should reflect personality, tell stories, and spark happiness. And lately, our founder Patricia has been on a mission to prove just that.
A World of Color Inspiration
Recently, Patricia traveled to Portugal and New York, two cities that couldn’t be more different, yet both pulse with vibrant energy. In Lisbon, she wandered past buildings painted in sun-bleached pinks, cobalt blues, and buttery yellows, their tiles telling centuries-old stories. In New York, she soaked up the electric energy of street art, neon signs, and eclectic brownstones that refuse to blend in.
And something clicked: Why shouldn’t Scandinavian homes embrace this fearless use of color too?
After all, Danish design has never been about rigid rules. It’s about balance, mixing simplicity with soul, minimalism with warmth. Think of the mid-century furniture of Arne Jacobsen, the playful patterns of Marimekko, or the way a single mustard-yellow accent wall can transform a room from stark to stunning.
Bringing Color Home
Inspired by her travels, Patricia returned to Copenhagen with a fresh vision for Nordtrice: candles that aren’t just objects, but bursts of joy.
Our newest collection plays with rich terracottas inspired by Lisbon’s rooftops, deep emeralds reminiscent of New York’s lush parks, and soft lilacs that echo the city’s golden-hour glow. These aren’t just colors, they’re moods. They’re memories. They’re an invitation to break free from the "all-white" stereotype and create a home that feels uniquely yours.
How to Add Color the Scandinavian Way
If you love the idea of a colorful Nordic home but aren’t sure where to start, here are a few effortless ways to try it:
-
Start Small – A single coral-hued candle or a vibrant vase can add a pop without overwhelming.
-
Mix Textures – Pair a bold-colored candle with natural materials like wood or linen for balance.
-
Embrace Seasonal Shades – Swap out tones with the seasons: sage green for spring, burnt orange for autumn.
-
Play with Light – Colored glass candles cast dreamy, tinted glows in the evenings.
Color Is Hygge Too
Some might say bright colors clash with hygge—but we disagree. True coziness comes from feeling at home in your space, whether that means a neutral nook or a rainbow-filled living room. It’s about surrounding yourself with what makes you happy.
So here’s to Scandinavian homes that dare to be bold. To spaces that tell stories. To candles that don’t just sit quietly, they glow.
With warmth,
The Nordtrice Team
